Why not take a trip to see our neighbors to the north.

What's Included:

4 people min

± 16 hours

This jam-packed, full-day tour shows you the best of our neighbor to the North!  You’ll visit cities, lakes, lookouts, and volcanoes, all while experiencing the culture and hospitality of the country.

After crossing the border, we’ll head to breakfast to fuel up for the day ahead.

STOP #1 – Head up to one of the highest points in the area, Catarina Lookout overlooking Apoyo Lagoon. You’ll also have views of as well as Lake Nicaragua, Grenada City, and Mombacho Volcano.  You’ll also have time for some shopping for local vendors in the area.

STOP #2 – Next, we’ll drive to Masaya Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in Nicaragua.  Witness immense lava fields and huge volcanic rocks from past eruptions.  From the lookout over the enormous Santiago crater, observing emissions of gases and the lava that comes from the depths of the volcano.

After the visit to the volcano, we’ll enjoy a hearty lunch before heading to the next stop.

STOP #3 – Visit the colonial city of Granada!  Founded in 1524, this is one of the oldest cities in Nicaragua and all of Central America!  Enjoy this vibrant city and its beautiful neoclassical and colonial architecture.  You’ll also visit the Chocolate Museum to learn about the history of chocolate and enjoy delicious chocolates made onsite. The next stop is the Cigar Museum, to learn about the process of manufacturing cigars – an interesting stop even if you’re not a cigar fan!

STOP #4 – Not far from Granada, you’ll board a boat to tour Lake Nicaragua and the Granada Islets.  This archipelago is believed to have been formed by an explosion of the Mombacho Volcano when it was still active. Fun fact!  There are 365 islets – one for each day of the year!  You’ll see impressive mansions owned by some of the wealthiest families in Nicaragua and have a fun stop at “Monkey Island”.

From here we head back to the border to cross back into Costa Rica and return to your lodging, between 8pm and 9pm.  Along the way, you can stop for a quick dinner or to-go meal.  This is a FULL day but is an amazing way to experience the beauty and culture of Nicaragua.
