Take a journey into nature in Palo Verde National Park, a tropical dry forest that is one of the most endangered ecosystems in Central America.  Made of mangroves, swamps, and both freshwater and saltwater lagoons, this area gives visitors a unique opportunity to see wildlife up close and in their natural habitat.  This tour is friendly for all ages and mobility levels.  It’s a great option for guests who want to see wildlife and nature without strenuous hiking.

Before heading to the National Park, we’ll stop at the central park in the town of Filadelfia to see and feed the giant iguanas that inhabit the park.  From there, we’ll drive through the Costa Rican countryside to the departure location of your river safari.  You’ll board a covered boat in the Cipanci National Reserve to start with the  1.5 to 2-hour tour on the Tempisque River.  This river winds 140km (86 miles) and is considered to be the most important river in the Guanacaste region. The Cipanci National Reserve is an important habitat for different species of monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas, and migratory and aquatic birds such as the roseate spoonbill, white ibis, greets egret, little blue heron, tricolored heron, and bare-throated tiger heron. The variety of birds in this region is the most extensive in the entire country.

After the river safari, you’ll enjoy traditional Costa Rican gastronomy with a delicious typical lunch.  Depending on the day, you may be able to take part in a pottery demonstration, showing the same techniques used for centuries by the Chorotega indigenous tribes in the region.
